The sun shone on Expo Ormstown
On Sunday June 11th Expo Ormstown concluded its thriving 103rd edition, which instead of the customary downpours, brought mostly sunshine, and even August-like heat.
From Thursday through Sunday, fairgoers enjoyed many fair standards from the opening parade, to the 45th anniversary of the Campbell’s Amusement Midway, to livestock and 4-H shows, as well as several new and anticipated events.
Highlights of the 2017 edition included Thursday and Fridays performances’ from the President’s Choice Super Dogs (sponsored by Ormstown Veterinary Clinic) and Sunday’s Local Fiddlers who played in celebration of Canada’s 150th. The talented local musicians drew a crowd to the family tent, despite the group missing several farmer fiddlers who were obliged to stay home and take advantage of the hot sunny weather following a spring of notorious rain. Their performance drew a smiling crowd as one onlooker commented: “It’s impossible to listen to this music without tapping your feet!”
Packed grand stands cheered on Sunday’s first ever Kid’s Demolition Derby, which drew local youth participants who warmed up the crowd for the traditional Demolition Derby. Throughout the weekend, fairgoers enjoyed sheep shearing and maple butter demonstrations as well as an introduction on vertical farming through the Get Up and Grow display. The successful 103rd edition was made possible by the dedicated members of the Expo Ormstown Non-Profit Organization and the LBADB, and sponsored by Desjardins, as well as many other community partners.
