Three-Star Bed and Breakfast Opens in Dewittville Landmark

The municipality of Godmanchester welcomed the opening of a three-star Bed and Breakfast, Auberge Soulevant, in Dewittville in February.
Swami Purusha, best known as the founder of École L’Art de Vivre Purusha (she also works as a yoga instructor in Valleyfield and Sainte-Martine), now invites guests to stay in the historic, nearly two-hundred-year-old, former Dewitt family home on the banks of the Chateauguay River.
A renowned local landmark, the three-story natural fieldstone house was originally built by Jacob Dewitt in 1832. Its picturesque location overlooks the half-mile of rapids which once rendered this section of the river impassable by boat and gave the village its former name: “la Portage.” At one time, the grand house housed a family of fourteen and has seen many transformations throughout the years, while retaining the quiet walls of a former era.
In its current incarnation, Auberge Soulevant boasts access to Zen gardens, a sitting room with a fireplace, and a river view hot tub. Three spacious bedrooms accommodate up to four guests each, with a shared bathroom. The inn welcomes individuals, couples, and groups of friends or families to unite in a tranquil, low-key environment. Purusha offers services as a ceremonial facilitator for special events such as marriages, baptisms, wakes and celebrations of life. In her words: “I want to give visitors the opportunity to spend time in a unique, friendly and simple environment that makes them imagine that they have stepped back in time.”
Price is $75 per person, special rates for groups upon request. One to two weeks advance reservation required. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/Auberge-Soulevant-621324781310344/ or call 450-264-4169.
