Sarah Lefort honoured to play with some of the best players in the world

After rewriting the record book for the University of Boston Terriers, hockey player Sarah Lefort is starting a new chapter in her career. The forward from Ormstown was selected in the first round by les Canadiennes de Montréal.

During the draft for the Canadian Women's Hockey League, Lefort was selected fifth in the first round.

"It's a huge honour to be drafted by les Canadiennes and to come and play in the city where I began my hockey career," proclaimed Sarah Lefort. "I'm so proud to be playing alongside some of the best players in the world in the CWHL and I'm looking forward to starting a fantastic season."

Included among her future team mates are Olympic gold medalists Caroline Ouellette, Charline Labonté, Marie-Philip Poulin and Lauriane Rougeau.

At the University of Boston, her statistics allowed her to beat records set by Marie-Philip Poulin. In 146 matches over four seasons, Lefort had 92 goals and 91 assists for 183 points. Her record includes a gold medal with the senior team at the 4 Nations Cup (2015) and another at the under 18 World Championships (2012).

Meg Hewings, General Manager for the team in the Canadian Women's Hockey League said she was delighted to add a strong forward and exceptional goal scorer to the team.

Les Canadiennes play at the Centre Étienne-Desmarteau. Their first home games will be played October 22 and 23 against the Toronto Furies. Last year, Montreal won 20 of its 24 games during the regular season but lost to Calgary in the finals against the Calgary Inferno.
