Valérie Lessard - Gravité Média - Female rugby players from Chateauguay Valley Regional High School in Ormstown joined forces on May 2 to free up an ambulance that was stuck in the mud on the playing field at Howard S Billings High School in Chateauguay. The two high schools were facing each other at Billings for the opening rugby match of the season in the girls juvenile category. At one point during the game, one of the CVR players sustained an injury. The ambulance was called so that the victim could be transported to hospital. According to Laura Ykema, who wa attending her younger sister’s game, the ambulance sank into the ground that was drenched with water. ‘’Before the crowd could even understand what was happening, the entire CVR team without hesitation ran towards the ambulance and pushed the 12,000-pound vehicle so that one of their teammates could quickly receive the care she needed,’’ Ykema said. The lady published the video on her Facebook page because she was touched by this gesture of solidarity. ‘’I am very proud of them,’’ she said. ‘’To see this type of team spirit was worth much more than the result of a sports event,’’ she emphasized. The New Frontiers School Board indicated on its Facebookpage that the injured student is doing well. Deed appreciated by ambulance attendants Spokesman Alexandre Barbeau from the Monteregie Ambulance Technicians Cooperative underlined that this gesture by the players was greatly appreciated by the technicians. ‘’I can tell you that when it happened (that the ambulance got stuck in the mud), the stress rose a notch. Our prior was to evacuate the ambulance as quickly as possible and transport the injured person to the hospital,’’ he explained. In this case, all went well, he informed. Barbeau said that help from regular citizens is always appreciated, notably during the winter when the vehicles get stuck in the snow. According to him, the weight of an ambulance is 4,200 kilograms, or about 9,000 pounds. [embed]https://www.facebook.com/laura.ykema/videos/10155491486942335/[/embed]
