Plombco Inc. is bought by a German company

Plombco Inc., which has some 125 employees at its facilities in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Huntingdon, was sold to the multinational company, Wegmann Automotive, in a transaction that concluded on February 1st.

Plombco Inc. President, Martin Lussier, confirmed the information last week without providing any further details about the amount or how company business would continue. He will stay on as a consultant for the next few weeks before permanently stepping down from his duties.

According to other sources, however, employees were told last week that they had new employers. All indications are that it will be business as usual for the company that manufactures wheel weights for cars and motorcycles at its installations on Edmond St. in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Dalhousie St. in Huntingdon. The company will keep the name Plombco Inc.

The personnel at both factories are to keep their positions and the purchase by this German multinational could even result in new hiring.

Until very recently, Wegmann Automotive was among the leading competitors of Plombco. It is part of the Wegmann Group, whose head office is based in Munich, and has installations in Toronto, Nashville, Nevada as well as Sao Paulo, Brazil, Europe and Asia.

The multinational has some 5000 employees and manufactures wheel weights for GM and Ford among others.

Plombco was launched thirty years ago by Georges Usereau and Claude Lussier. In 1989, they established their business at the Edmond St. premises which they then expanded. Plombco has also had facilities in Huntingdon since 2008. It currently produces one million wheel weights per day.
