Over 1,500 cannabis plants seized in Godmanchester

A hydroponic greenhouse was dismantled inside a barn situated on Route 138 in Godmanchester on the afternoon of June 30.

Armed with a search warrant, police from the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC Surete du Quebec seized more than 1,500 marijuana plants as well as certain other illicit drugs that have been sent to a laboratory for expert analysis. Equipment serving for the production of drugs were also discovered at the scene.

This raid follows a police investigation launched about two weeks ago by the SQ.

Michael Robidoux, 40, of Godmanchester and Michael Lemon, 37, of Montreal were arrested on the premises. They appeared in Valleyfield court on charges of cultivating cannabis and possession of cannabis.

Three youths arrested for stealing golf kart

Three young adults were arrested in connection with the theft of a golf kart at the Lac des Pins camping site at Saint-Antoine-Abbe during the night of June 30. The three individuals who fled with the kart belonging to a camper were quickly spotted near the camping ground by police, thanks to information transmitted by a security agent.

A 20-year-old man from Beauharnois and an 18-year-old resident of St-Urbain Premier have been interrogated by police but were released by way of a summons.

For his part, Dominic Ste-Marie Tremblay, 21, of St-Urbain Premier has been detained and appeared in Valleyfield court. He has been charged with having broken conditions after having been released.

The kart, valued at $3,000, was returned intact to its owner.

In a ditch because of a deer

It was while trying to avoid a deer that a motorist found himself in an awkward position after having lost control of his vehicle on Route 209 in Franklin during the night of July 1.

The St. Remi resident, 23, found himself in a ditch facing the wrong direction against the traffic. According to the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC Surete du Quebec, the young man sustained minor injuries but his condition did not necessitate transportation to hospital. The front and rear of the vehicle were heavily damaged.

Classic vehicle burns

An electrical problem was thought to be at the origin of a fire which completely destroyed a classic utility 1996 « Hummer » vehicle on the evening of June 26 in Tres-Saint-Sacrement. The vehicle, which is a total loss, was parked near a residence on Route 138.

Firemen from Tres-Saint-Sacrement encircled the blaze. According to the owner of the « Hummer », the damages are evaluated at $100,000.

Vandalism to a vehicle

An Ormstown resident had the disagreeable surprise to notice that some damage was caused to the paint on his vehicle during the night of June 25 on Bridge street.

Some scratches were noticed in several places, among other things, on the driver's side doors and the front passenger side, the right rear flank side and the front bumper. The damage comes to about $500. No one has been arrested in connection with this act of vandalism.
