Montreal-Based Bombadils to Play Ormstown’s Gigzz Music Resto
Naming Beethoven and The Beatles as some of their influences, Canadian duo Luke Fraser and Sarah Frank have been described as “…a breath of fresh air.”
Their sound, which is featured on their newest album, New Shoes, is a majestic mash up of banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin, accompanied by the vocals of Edmonton native Frank and Fraser, who is originally from Nova Scotia. According to a recent press release, their newest work (produced by James Perrella and partner Julia Graff) features “…haunting harmonies; fabulous fretwork on banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle; all kinds of innovative embellishments from jazzy flute and clarinet lines to pulsating cello and subtle bagpipes; and two vocalists whose distinctive styles light up the recording.” On September 2nd, locals will be able to experience this folk band live at Ormstown’s Gigzz Musique-Resto at 7:00 P.M.
Based in Montreal, the couple, who are partners in life and in music, both have extensive musical training, having studied classical composition and performance at McGill University. Following graduation, they launched their debut album in 2012, with another in 2015. Their work was once described by FATEA as “…a really delightful record, soaked through with duly dexterous, truly symbiotic musicianship that’s the province of closely-knit young people who’ve grown their music together.”
