Local Man makes 100th Blood Donation

Ormstown’s Jack Mason, 76, has been donating blood since his early twenties. On Tuesday, October 18th, Mason made the trek to the Héma-Quebec blood drive in Huntingdon to achieve a milestone, rolling up his sleeves for his 100th donation.
On hand to celebrate Jack's notable donation was his daughter, Joy Grant, and granddaughter, Beth Grant.
Other than a brief respite during his youth, Mason has made it a priority to attend as many blood drives as possible. According to Mason, everyone should give blood if they are able. “You never know who may need an infusion or when,” explains Mason’s daughter, Joy. “I took my children with me when they were little, when I went to donate, so I guess they picked it up from there. My niece from Howick, who is 24, has given 28 times so far.” Blood drives in the area aim for 80-100 donations per drive, based on the population in the area, a goal which the organization has had some difficulty meeting.
Héma-Quebec, established in 1998, hosts approximately 3,000 blood drives a year, resulting in the annual delivery of close to 500,000 blood products to Quebec hospitals—a donation that truly makes a difference to many patients across the province.
