Emily Southwood - The Huntingdon Dart League recently held their annual playoff games, followed by a festive banquet and awards presentation ceremony. The league has run for some 15 years at the Huntingdon Legion where a passion for the game of darts brings together more than 30 players, old and young, each year. This year the honour of league champions went to the team comprised of Isobel Welburn, Raymond Patenaude and Claude Galipeau. The Dart League is a mixed league of players who range in age from their 30’s to late 80’s. Although run from The Huntingdon Legion, players need not be members to join one of the 10 current teams that are formed each September and compete through the end of April. Dart league member Adrien Doucette explains that teams are formed with mixed abilities. “We have some very good players but are not to be considered professional by any means.” The popular league still has room to expand to 12 teams, which translates to an additional 12 spots available for new players. The recreational league contributes approximately $2,500.00 to $3,000.00 to the Royal Canadian Legion each year to help fund their programming, including supporting seniors, providing youth sports programs, volunteering to help those in need, or simply offering a place to gather for fun and celebration such as the Huntingdon Legion. As this season comes to a close, the players will set their sights on another year of fun-spirited community involvement.
