Durham County Poets launch Grimshaw Road
On Saturday June 3rd, the Durham County Poets launched their 3rd album Grimshaw Road at Grove Hall.
The MRC de Haut-Saint-Laurent organized and hosted the entertaining evening that drew a crowd to Huntingdon. Fans showed their appreciation of the new material as they grooved along to Kevin Harvey, David Whyte, Neil Elsmore, Carl Rufh, Jim Preimel, and special guests Tony Constantini and Katie Rufh as they performed an encore performance into the evening.
The band played older tunes as well as many of the new songs from Grimshaw Road, which stays true to the band’s rich and varied style with hints of blues, folk, rock, swing, country and gospel. Jazz and soul roots were reflected in the horns and female vocals, which accompanied several numbers. Front man Kevin Harvey joked that they even have a pop song on this album as he introduced the indeed, super catchy, Living in The Moment—though you’ll want to think more Allman Brothers than Justin Bieber.
Kevin introduced many songs with personal anecdotes, including the moving number Streets and Sidewalks. He recounted the tale of meeting a woman in airport security whose daughter had escaped the twin towers from the third floor during 911, and that of a dear friend he’d lost to alcohol addiction. Over the evening, the band expressed thanks to many, including friends who have passed on, and the band’s many dedicated Haut-Saint-Laurent fans. “We would really like to thank everyone who came out. We are so appreciative of our hometown supporters,” Kevin said.
