Considered the biggest in Quebec, the Saint-Chrysostome Demolition Derby lived up to its reputation on July 18 and 19 when 230 vehicles in fifteen categories were thrown into the lion’s den.

Now in its 35th year, the event offered participants $25 000 in prizes, notably prizes of $1000 for the major finalists. “This year, for the first time, we registered more than 30 competitors in the pick-up class on Saturday evening, leaving us no choice but to hold a final in this category” reported Audrey Macchabée, President.

The event has also made it possible to donate some $233 000 to Leucan over the last 15 years. Mme Macchabée mentioned that once again this year, $20 000 will be given to the cause for children with cancer.

The 2015 edition of the Derby drew no less than 6500 spectators over the two day competition which took place on the grounds of the Chevaliers de Colomb (Knights of Columbus) behind the community centre.

Because the municipality uses the track as a waste snow disposal site during the winter, it has a holding tank approved by the ministère de l’Environnement for oils and other materials from demolished cars.
