On October 27th, Chateauguay Valley Regional high school (CVR) student Sabrina Dauphinais presented a donation of $300 to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Huntingdon County Hospital.

The gracious contribution was received by the organization’s president, June Todd. Dauphinais’s donation is the first ever made to the auxiliary by a student. “We were surprised and glad that Sabrina and her family were so happy with the care her grandmother receives,” said the organization’s treasurer, Christine Poirier.

Dauphinais came up with the idea to raise funds as part of an Ethics course offered at CVR, the objective of which is to help the community. She held a number of fundraisers—including a bake sale and a garage sale, with all proceeds going to her cause. Dauphinais saw her newest endeavour as a way to show her appreciation for the palliative care that her grandmother receives as a patient of the Huntingdon County Hospital, located on rue Chateauguay, Huntingdon, QC.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Huntingdon County Hospital holds one fundraiser a year, usually in the form of a spaghetti dinner and bazar. “The community is great contributor, making up a large portion of the donations we receive,” explained Poirier. The organization, which has been active in the Valley since 1954, works to improve the hospital residents’ quality of life—making every day a little more comfortable for the residents, whether through upgrades to facilities, or via the supply of goods and services in order to enhance the well-being of the residents.
