Emily Southwood - In line with Valentine’s day, the next Communi-T Night featuring a ‘Healthy Heart’ theme will be held at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School on February 13, from 5-7 p.m. As well as the usual, free spaghetti supper and networking, the evening will include a presentation on practical steps to prevent age-related disorders, as well as ways to promote healthy lifestyle choices. Local health organizations will also be on site this time around to raise awareness of services within the community. Currently a record number of over 33 organizations have registered for the evening. The event has been continuously growing over the years and the organizers are thrilled to witness the involvement. Community Development agent, Kim Wilson explains, “Over 200 people were present at our last event in Huntingdon, on December 5th. It’s really great to see families return, knowing they are benefiting from this casual, social gathering. You can really see the value in having everyone together in one place, that goes for citizens and non-profits alike; networks are strengthening.” This event should be the largest yet, as the CLC’s are pairing up with the Montérégie West Community Network (MWCN) who are promoting the healthy heart theme. This will mean the presence of additional partners who don’t typically attend events in the Haut-Saint-Laurent. This time around, food will be prepared by Ancre et Aile and high school students from both Arthur Pigeon and Chateauguay Valley Regional High School will be on hand to help host the event. Wilson expands on the importance of volunteers for these evenings, “Whether it’s setting up, helping in the kitchen, welcoming guests, helping in the daycare, it is great to see the youth involvement. There are approximately 10-20 volunteers for each of these evenings that help make it a success!” The event will take place from 5pm to 7pm on February 13th at CVR with the Healthy Heart workshop presented at 5 p.m. (in English).
