Grey skies and a near constant threat of rain did not stop revellers from gathering at the Fairgrounds in Hinchinbrooke to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation.

The municipalities of Huntingdon, Godmanchester, Hinchinbrooke, Elgin and Dundee came together to present a full day of activities, which included inflated games and face painting for children, a magic show, braised pork supper, and evening concert.

Federal MP for Salaberry-Suroit, Anne Minh Thu Quach, joined Huntingdon MNA Stéphane Billette, and the five municipal mayors, for welcoming addresses, a flag raising ceremony and balloon release.

The traditional Canada Day fireworks display, held annually in Athelstan, were relocated to the Fairgrounds for the special celebration. And, as the day culminated in colourful bursts of light over the Town of Huntingdon, those watching joined with millions of Canadians across the country in capping an extra special Canada Day.
