Although the total amount of the project is undetermined at this time, two things are certain in the case of the new Ormstown town hall: the municipal building will be built on Gale Street and the provincial government through the Quebec Municipalities infrastructure, will offer a subsidy of $1.1 million to the municipality to help them achieve it.

The news was announced Monday June 8 in the early afternoon in the presence of the mayor, Chrystian Soucy, the député for Huntingdon, Stéphane Billette, the general manager for Ormstown, Daniel Théroux and all the municipal councillors, current and former who have worked on the project over the years.

The former mayor, Jacques Lapierre, was also present on the second floor of the Rec Center located at 87 Roy street where all guests were invited.

65 % in government contribution

I am very pleased to confirm that there will be funding of $1 143 426 or the equivalent of 65% of eligible costs for construction of a new town hall. This will ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of all employees and citizens. I am convinced that this project will have a positive impact on the entire community and its development said Mr. Billette in front of the assembled crowd.

The new town hall will be located on Gale Street near the Barrie Memorial hospital, the police station and the municipal garage. The board and I find that this area is ideal to build the new town hall because of the presence of many companies in the area. We would like the building to house the staff and citizens by the beginning of 2016 said Mr. Soucy the mayor.

According to the architectural plans unveiled at the press conference the building will only be one story. It will be easily accessible to people with reduced mobility. In addition it will provide a safe environment for municipal employees, elected officials and citizens.

At the present it is estimated that the overall will be $1,8 million, With the contribution from the government there will be about $ 700 000 to pay, but this will have no impact on the tax burden of citizens. It will be paid from the accumulated surplus of the municipality of nearly $1 million.

 Volet 5.1 component PIQM

With a budget of nearly 240 million dollars, the PQIM 5.1 subcomponent enables Quebec municipalities to carry out construction projects, upgrading, rehabilitation or infrastructure repair municipally. It aims to ensure that the safety and health of all employees and the community and to improve the service offering and quality of life of citizens in addition to overcoming the obsolesce and lack of space of the existing infrastructure.
