The house is considered a total loss.
Fire completely ravaged a residence at 1919 Borden St. in Ormstown, on Thursday, February 16 around 9:30 a.m.
A ninety year old man was taken to hospital to be treated for shock. It appears he is the occupant of the house.
According to initial reports, the resident was clearing snow when he apparently noticed smoke coming from his house. He immediately tried to save his animals but they had already succumbed to the smoke. While attempting this, the man would also have been overcome by smoke.
Firefighters from the Service de sécurité incendie d’Ormstown were assisted by brigades from Franklin, Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague and Howick to combat the blaze which completely destroyed the one hundred year old house.
Philippe Toone, Director General for the municipality indicated that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
