Emily Southwood - On December 22, Ormstown’s Taverne de la Ferme raised funds for their neighboring community organization Une Affaire de Famille with the event: Home for the Holidays: A Rhythm and Booze party. The newish Valley favorite watering hole and eatery donated $1 for every pint sold throughout the evening to support the educational workshops offered to local families, free, at Une Affaire de Famille. Monies raised at the festive event will now benefit local families by helping parents become the best caregivers they can be through education. Une Affaire de Famille is a non-profit organization that offers a range of activities, programs and services for all families in the Haut-St-Laurent. Taverne owner Summer Eastwood came up with the idea of a fundraiser after meeting community organizer, Gaby Limoges, and witnessing her contagious passion for helping families. “The work they do is just undeniably good for our area,” Eastwood explains, “I knew I wanted to do something with them right away. Giving back to the Valley, especially to organizations that do good here, is something I want to do more and more as we grow ourselves as an establishment.” Anyone who has been to Taverne for tasty food and local spirits will also attest to Summer Eastwood’s contagious passion. Her community minded attitude was a big part of the ethos that fueled the opening of Taverne on June 1, 2017. The gastro pub, which frequently hosts musicians and themed evenings combines her passions into something she felt had been missing in Ormstown— a really great pub that brings the whole community together. Her team is equally zealous about finding and serving great local food and drinks, supporting small businesses, and promoting the live music scene. Eastwood explains further: “For me, in an era of globalization and mass-produced everything, it really is cool to support local businesses. From hiring musicians, to choosing craft beers and keeping our wine and spirits list very local - it's just something that makes sense to do. Another aspect of being community-minded is extending a hand to help out when you can. My team and I are extremely grateful to this community for having embraced our vision so quickly. We definitely have felt the love this year and are deeply excited for all the magic 2018 will bring at the Taverne.” To find out more about upcoming events at Taverne de la Ferme follow them on Facebook @Taverne de la Ferme.
