The Huntingdon County Farmers’ Market is once again launching its season with a series of four Winter Markets in three different locations throughout the Haut-Saint-Laurent. For its 13th season, the Farmers’ Market has brought together many of the finest local and regional producers and artisans to ensure visitors will find exactly what they are looking for. “Every year we are getting more diversity at the Winter Markets, particularly within the artisans, and there are a number of new producers to be discovered as well,” says Ian Ward, the Market Coordinator. The somewhat slower pace during the winter months represents “a great opportunity to take the market on the road and showcase the diversity and quality that we have right here in the Valley,” he adds. The first market will take place on February 11 at the Community Hall in Saint-Chrysostome, to be followed by a market in Huntingdon at the St-Joseph Parish Hall on March 11, and in Ormstown at the Recreation Centre on April 6. This year, the Farmers’ Market is also pleased to be working with the CISSMO to hold a special market at the Centre d’Hébergement d’Ormstown on May 6. Essentially a pilot project, the special market will take place just before Mothers’ Day and will offer an opportunity to residents and their families to participate in the market together. “This is a public event,” notes Mr. Ward, while suggesting “it could also have some really surprising benefits for the residents, many of whom are former artisans and farmers.” All of the Winter Markets are open from 10 am to 4 pm.
