Some 400 cannabis plants seized in Franklin

A search was going thuesday at a residence and farm building on rang des Savary in Franklin.

A police operation seized 400 cannabis plants and equipment used for production.

No arrests have been made to date, but the inquiry is ongoing and suspects may be questioned.

Forensic police officers, investigators from the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC police station and a Sûreté du Québec dog handler participated in this operation.

The investigation was initiated several months ago following information from the public and the use of a variety of investigative techniques.

Asleep at the wheel

On Sunday around 9:30 p.m., police officers with the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC discovered an individual asleep behind the wheel of his car which was parked on the 1st Concession in Elgin.

The driver smelled strongly of alcohol. He was arrested and taken to the police station where he failed a breathalyser test. His blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

His vehicle has been seized for 30 days and his driver's licence suspended for 90.

He was released on condition that he appear in court. He could face charges of care and control of a vehicle while under the influence.
