As more and more seniors face isolation, citizens of the Haut-Saint-Laurent are once again being asked to spend quality time with the seniors in their lives during the month of June as part of the second edition of the Let’s Visit our Seniors Challenge. Within the framework of the En Bonne Compagnie dans le Haut-Saint-Laurent project, the Comité de Concertation des Ainés du Haut-Saint-Laurent in partnership with the municipalities, the MRC Amie des Ainés, as well as Philips Lifeline officially launched the second edition of the campaign on May 29. The partners involved in this year’s edition are especially pleased to have with them as spokesperson Mr. André Bienvenue, a well-known speaker on the subject of aging happily. “We have 30 days to practice for the next eleven months,” he quipped, while underlining how honoured he was to have been asked to serve as the face of this important campaign. He spoke enthusiastically about visiting with seniors and the sense of fulfillment and well-being this brings to both parties. Activities planned for the month of June A multifaceted campaign, the Let’s Visit our Seniors Challenge consists of mobilizing all sectors of the community with an objective of celebrating our seniors by offering quality time during regular visits. Visitors are invited to register their visits at: www.enbonnecompagnie.org, or by another option introduced this year on Facebook or during a series of weekly registration cafés (June 7, 14, 21, and 28 at ADDS in Huntingdon). Organizers are hoping to double the number of registered visits this year. All participants will have the chance to win one of a number of special Visit the Haut-Saint-Laurent packages as well as a gift basket from the Comité de Concertation des Ainés du Haut-Saint-Laurent. As well, on June 15, Valley residents are encouraged to wear purple in support of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Purple ribbons will be available at the Galeries Ormstown and the Huntingdon CLSC. More information on the Let’s Visit our Seniors Challenge is available on the En Bonne Compagnie website and Facebook page.
