The buses were once again rolling throughout the Haut-Saint-Laurent this past week as students returned to class for another school year. A fresh year means new experiences to look forward to for all those returning, including several administrators taking on new positions following a series of administrative appointments made by the New Frontiers School Board over the summer.

The NFSB has confirmed a total of nine new administrative appointments as part of their planning for the 2017-2018 school year. This year, the annual shuffle will see a new Principal at Heritage Elementary School, a new Vice-Principal at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School, an entirely new administrative team at Howard S. Billings High School, as well as a new Director at the NOVA Career Centre.

In Ormstown, Ms. Anick Leclerc will take over as Vice-Principal at CVR. As a graduate of the local high school, she went on to teach at Gault Institute in Valleyfield from 1998 to 2014, when she was named Principal at Heritage Elementary School in Huntingdon. Taking her place at Heritage Elementary will be Mr. Eric Colbert, who joined the NFSB in 1996. Since 2015, he has been serving as a Vice-Principal at CVR.

Mr. Jean Bouchard will take over as Centre Director for the Chateauguay Valley Career Education Centre in Ormstown. Mr. Bouchard has a wealth of experience in the adult education sector and has served for the past nine years as the Centre Director at the NOVA Career Centre.

In Chateauguay, Mr. Collin Thomas has been named the new Principal at Howard S. Billings (HSB). Since beginning his career with the NFSB in 2001, he has served as a Vice-Principal at CVR, Principal at Gault Institute, and most recently as Vice-Principal at HSB. Mr. Thomas will be joined by Mr. Dave Reddick and Ms. Lynn L’Esperance-Claude, who have both been appointed to fill the roles of Vice-Principal.

The NOVA Career Centre in Chateauguay has a new Centre Director in Ms. Bonnie Mitchell, who took over the position on July 1. Ms. Mitchell has been working with the NFSB since 1993, where she worked at HSB for 13 years before being named Principal at St. Willibrord School in 2006. In 2010, Ms. Mitchell began working on special projects at the Board Office, including the development of the Community Learning Centres. In 2012, she was named Director of Continuing Education. Joining Ms. Mitchell at NOVA will be Ms. Nancy Richer, who has been named the new Assistant Centre Director.

At the Board level, there has also been one administrative change with the introduction of Ms. Chantal Martin as the Director of Continuing Education. New to the NFSB family, Ms. Martin taught with the English Montreal School Board before being named Vice-Principal at Roslyn Elementary School, Principal at St. John Bosco Elementary School, and Principal at Royal Vale School. Since 2012, Ms. Martin has been serving as the Assistant Head, Elementary, at St. George’s School of Montreal.
