On December 5, 2017, eight talented and passionate 4-H members of the Howick and Ormstown 4-H clubs embarked on a journey to Toronto to represent South-West Quebec at the TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic. The event was held from November 5-8 and showcased 4-H members and their calves from across Canada in both conformation and showmanship. The South-West Quebec team was comprised of Bobby Tolhurst, Alana McKinven, Julie MacFarlane, Martha Mackinnon, Véronique Brisson, Kevin MacFarlane, Jake Lussier, Caleb Bryson and chaperone Beth Grant. We arrived at Exhibition place on Sunday evening with the calves and began preparing the South-West Quebec bed and got the calves washed, fed and settled in. Tuesday morning the showmanship competition began. Alana McKinven went on to win Reserve Champion Showperson with Roggua Jacoby Evacoby. The conformation competition was held on Wednesday morning and the following members made the top 20 with their calves: Julie MacFarlane, Kevin MacFarlane, Jake Lussier, Bobby Tolhurst, Alana McKinven, Véronique Brisson, and Caleb Bryson. Thank you to all South-West members, Beth Grant, our chaperone, and Betty Mercier for all your help and support during the four days at the Royal and the many days before, and to Mike Wattie for trucking the cattle to and from Toronto.
