For the third year in a row, Vision Bénévolat du Haut-Saint-Laurent calls on the community to recognize the contribution of its volunteers. Honorary President and Volunteer of the Year 2017, Mrs. Mary Shewchuk, officially kicked off the nomination period, seeking individuals who stand out for their dedication. Citizens, associations, organizations, businesses, institutions, schools and municipalities of the territory are invited to submit, by March 23, the names of people from the Haut-Saint-Laurent who have distinguished themselves in the community. This year's Volunteer Awards will be held on April 19, 2018, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Cultural Center in Sainte-Barbe, during National Volunteer Week. New this year, the Volunteer of the Year will receive a trophy on which will be engraved the names of volunteers honoured since 2016. This trophy will be loaned to the Volunteer of the Year 2018 and to those who will follow. The sculpture and the name of the artist who designed it will be unveiled during the evening of April 19. The strength of a community lies in the volunteer commitment of its citizens, whether they are involved in the success of festivals and events, in community organizations, municipalities, schools or even in healthcare. Youth stand out with their involvement, while others make it a family activity. "The goal is to recognize volunteerism in all its forms, in all walks of life. Volunteering is essential to provide the human commitment that makes a difference in the quality of life of a community”, said Mary Shewchuk. The Volunteer Awards evening is, once again, benefiting from a strong partnership with local businesses and institutions that are committed to social involvement: Assurances Gosselin, Leahy Orchards, Caisse Desjardins du Haut-Saint-Laurent, and Jean-Luc Crête, CPA auditor CGA will each sponsor one of the 2018 Awards categories. To submit a nomination, please go the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent website (www.mrchsl.com) to download the nomination form or contact Nathalie Trépanier at 450 264-5411, extension 221.
