Sarah Rennie - Huntingdon is about to be toasted, in a big way, on national television. The award-winning CBC series Still Standing is coming to Huntingdon to film an episode next month that will include an evening of comedy celebrating the town, its resilience and its characters on December 6th at Grove Hall. “I was looking for a survival story,” says Anne Francis, the Executive Producer behind the hit CBC show. “We were interested in the textile industry,” she adds, noting Huntingdon seemed to be a perfect fit. Still Standing follows comedian Johnny Harris, of Murdoch Mysteries fame, as he crosses the country to explore small towns on the ropes only to immerse himself in the lives of locals while unearthing the tall tales, local lore and heartwarming stories that make such town tick. “It’s a very educational show for people who watch it,” notes Francis, who suggests the whole purpose of the show is to shed a positive light on the town. The goal is not to dredge up bad or painful memories about the textile industry or to air any dirty laundry. The production crew will be in town for a total of five days, during which Johnny Harris and a team of three writer/comedians will explore the town and meet with people, all while gathering material for a custom comedy show that will be performed for the Huntingdon community at the end of the week. “It is quite remarkable what he manages to pull off,” admits Francis, of Harris’ ability to sniff out the quirky and the funny in small town life. Live comedy show The live stand-up portion of the show will be recorded at Grove Hall on Wednesday, December 6. The doors will open at 6:00 pm, for a 6:30 pm start.  Line up early to secure a seat. There are no tickets on sale for the show and no seat reservations, it's a free, first come first serve event.  However the team at Grove Hall is requesting that each person bring a non-perishable food item or make a donation to the Bouffe Additionelle.
